When you mention the word ‘work’ to children, it can be easy for them to run and hide. After all, kids would love nothing more than to play all day, and it’s really what they are good at. However, as children grow older, their interest in earning money deepens, even though they are not physically and mentally ready for real jobs. Take this interest positively. Research shows that children who have been taught the value of money learn how to save up better, and may even be more responsible and independent when the right time comes. Of course you would like your children to have all the fun they need while they’re kids, but you always want them to grow up financially responsible, so here are 5 ways for kids to make money without boring them out.
Put up a mini art museum. Kids love to paint, draw and literally use their hands to create masterpieces that many adults appreciate. Have your kids create paintings and sell them. Assist them in putting up a booth, at the fair, for instance. Everyone has a soft heart for children, and so the gallery will definitely catch attention.
Offer pet-sitting for neighbors and friends. Children love animals, and what better way to teach them about caring than have them pet-sit for your neighbor’s dog? Pet-sitting is easy, but you will need to make sure your child is at the right age, and has made friends with the pet before the owner can leave the animal to him or her.
Bake goodies and sell them. Mothers in the kitchen can have their little girls help them bake cookies which the kids can sell. It’s a good way for moms and kids to bond, and each sale increases a kid’s self-esteem.
Sell toys in a garage sale. Get rid of all the clutter and put up a rummage sale! While you can be in-charge of adult part of the booth, your kids can do a wonderful job of selling their old toys and clothes.
Assist the elderly. Finally, helping the elderly in jobs such as cleaning their yard or even sending email are great ways for kids to earn money. Best of all, they are taught the value of respect for older people.
